About the museum

The museum was founded in 1924 by Höganäs Fabriks- och Hantverksförening (Höganäs Factory and Crafts Association) on the initiative of Albin Hamberg, and began as a local history museum with objects from farming, fishing and mining. From the 1950s the collecting of ceramics, especially those made in Höganäs, became increasingly important. Gifts from Höganäsbolaget (the Höganäs company) and from the ceramicist Åke Holm laid the foundation for the ceramics collection that exists today.

In spring 2022 Höganäs Museum och Konsthall (Höganäs Museum and Art Hall) merged with Keramiskt center (Ceramics Centre) under the name KKAM, which stands for keramik (ceramics), konst (art), ateljé (studio) and museum. The activities are run by a foundation formed in 1997, while Höganäs Municipality owns the premises and supports the operation financially. KKAM Museum is responsible for the collections, exhibitions and cultural-historical learning, and KKAM Ateljé is a creative workshop for ceramics courses in the former factory premises of Höganäs Keramik.

The collection covers the local working history, industry and crafts, and shows the development of ceramics from industrially made utility ware to 20th-century art ceramics and contemporary ceramic art. The museum shows both permanent and temporary exhibitions.
