About the museum

Hovermo gårdsmuseum is run by the brothers Folke and Yngve Ericsson, whose great-grandfather Johannes Andersson bought a farm in Hovermo in 1867. Among other things he started a sawmill with a frame saw and a mill, and the power came from a waterfall in the Hovermoån river, where a power station was built in 1918. The farm grew into a family-run farm industry, which is largely preserved.

The museum opened to the public in 1997 and shows the farm's industries, buildings and machines in an extensive farm museum with a café. In 2001 the site was named Årets industriminne (Industrial Heritage of the Year) by Svenska Industriminnesföreningen (the Swedish Industrial Heritage Association), and it is a protected building (byggnadsminne).

Hovermo is part of Snilleriket (the Realm of Ingenuity), a cooperation of attractions and remarkable people in the southern Storsjö region. On Snilleriket's national day, 31 July, visitors with the Snillerundan card can visit several of the places, including Hovermo.
