About the museum

Nossebro local heritage society was formed in 1985, and among the first things the society took on was saving the old station building from demolition. The municipality bought the building and restored its exterior to its 1916 appearance, and in November 1992 the society was able to move its activities in. The station building today holds many photographs and objects from the railway era, and almost everything comes from Åke Bergmer’s collections.

The society also has photographs and documentation about the community that grew up when the Västergötland–Göteborg Railway opened in 1900 and the Trollhättan–Nossebro Railway in 1916. Both lines were closed around 1970. The exhibition is shown, among other places, in the former stationmaster’s living room, and temporary theme exhibitions are also held in the station building.

The society has also renovated Kerstinsås mill by the stone bridge over the Nossan river in 2001–2007. The mill grinds grain once a year, on the first Saturday in October, and is otherwise shown by arrangement.
