About the museum
Kalvsnäs kvarn (the Kalvsnäs mill) was built in 1865 and belongs to the older industrial environments around Kalvsnäs in Hofors municipality. The mill was rebuilt from a former smithy and was in operation until the 1940s. Today the building is rented by the village association Kalvsnäs byalag, which runs a village museum in it.
The exhibitions deal with life on the farm and the history of the forest, with hand tools and an old section of a cowshed among other things. The roof of the mill was renovated in autumn 2022. Nearby is the arboretum at Kratte blast furnace (masugn), with around eighty labelled tree species.
