About the museum
Krapperup lies on the west coast of Skåne in Brunnby parish on the Kullahalvön peninsula, about seven kilometres north of Höganäs and just south of Kullaberg and Mölle. The present main building was erected in the mid-16th century over the remains of a medieval castle. The estate came into Swedish ownership in 1667, when Maria Sophia De la Gardie bought it and had the main building refurbished as a baroque palace.
The castle's present appearance mainly derives from the renovation of 1750–1760 under Petter Gotthard von Kochen, who also made the estate a fideikommiss (entailed estate). Through marriage Krapperup returned to the Gyllenstierna family in 1809, which owned it until 1967. The last fideikommissarie, Baron Gustaf Gyllenstierna, then transferred the castle and the estate to the Gyllenstiernska Krapperupsstiftelsen (Gyllenstierna Krapperup Foundation).
Today the foundation runs farming and forestry on the estate and looks after the castle, the park and the cultural buildings. On the farm there is a farm museum with free admission in summer and a castle museum, established in 1984, whose basic exhibition Berget och Borgen (The Mountain and the Castle) describes the cultural history of the Kulla district (Kullabygden). In addition there is an art hall, a music hall, a café and a farm shop, and the park, which dates back to the 17th-century baroque layout, is open to the public all year round.
