About the museum

Långvinds bruk was founded in 1687 and for two hundred years was an ironworks with a high degree of self-sufficiency. Iron production ceased in 1890, and the blast furnace was shut down for good in 1902. Afterwards forestry, a steam sawmill and farming continued, and only in the later part of the 20th century did the population fall sharply. Since 2018 the works has been owned by Holmen Skog AB.

The works museum (Bruksmuseet) is housed in the works' former joinery and paint workshop next to the Kolhuset (charcoal house). It opened during the Långvind Days in 2006, after an extensive renovation in 2004–2005. The collection consists mainly of objects from the ironworks era, mostly cast-iron and forged items, but also period joinery items such as a planing bench and tools, and objects connected with dairy, shipping, farming and forestry in Långvind. There are also curiosities and extensive written documentation. The eastern part of the building contains two hostel rooms.

The museum has a separate photo exhibition in the old fire station, and individual objects are shown in the Bränneriet (the distillery) and the Kolhuset. The works environment, with a manor house, chapel, blast furnace ruin, power station and smithy, can be explored on guided works walks or on your own.
