About the museum
Kungshamns Bildarkiv is a voluntary association, founded in 1997, that is open to everyone. The archive holds photographs from the 19th century up to the present day, gathered in about fifty binders that cover all areas of the community. Visitors can research the pictures, indulge in nostalgia and follow how the community has changed over the centuries.
The archive’s roots lie in a library that for a period was on the upper floor of Erikssons Café in Gravarne. There postcards and pictures were collected by, among others, the rural police officer (landsfiskal) Forsström and the librarian Halvard Larsson, who documented each picture with text. Around 1992 the PRO pensioners’ association in Gravarne formed a study group that mapped the properties in Gravarne, Bäckevik and Tången. The archive is now at the Ångbåtsbryggan in Kungshamn, where pictures of the quay are shown in the entrance.
