About the museum
Landskrona museum presents the history of the town in Adolf Fredriks kasern (the Adolf Fredrik barracks), an 18th-century building by Rådhustorget that is a listed building. Landskrona town bought the barracks in 1933, and for many years the house accommodated various associations. The museum moved into the upper floors in 1934 and took over the whole building in 1976.
The basic exhibitions take the visitor through the town’s development, from the town founded in 1413 and the Nya staden (New Town) of the 18th century to the industrial and trading town of the 19th century and the early 20th century. Finds from excavations east of the town tell of people who have lived here for about 8,000 years, and a special section shows works by Carl Fredrik Reuterswärd.
The museum also has a textile exhibition on bridal chests (brudkistor), an exhibition on advertising and society, and the play exhibition Trädgårdslandet (the Garden Plot) for the youngest children. Several temporary exhibitions are shown every year. The municipality’s memories and history are gathered in the fact archive Minnesbanken (the Memory Bank).
