About the museum
The stonemason Hans Niklasson began building the house in 1914 and worked on it until 1922, when all the sturdy stone blocks had been joined together. As decoration, he carved several figures and pictures into the house's outer walls and into the stone wall around the cottage.
Hans Niklasson made all the furnishings and tools himself in his workshop and smithy, which lies wall to wall with the house. He lived in the cottage until his death in the early 1950s. Today the cottage is owned by Tanums kommun (Tanum Municipality) and managed by Svenneby hembygdsförening (local heritage society).
Next to the cottage the association has built a local history museum for various objects and furniture. At the homestead in Heestrand the association arranges a local heritage day every summer with, among other things, a flea market and coffee service.
