About the museum

Ljungbergmuseet lies by the Lagan river beach in Ljungby and grew out of the studio of the artist Sven Ljungberg. Sven Ljungberg bought a plot in 1952 where a sawmill had previously stood, and had a studio built with three tall windows facing north. Since many visitors came to buy paintings, the idea of a picture store was born, which over time was transformed into a museum. The artists' house was built in 1969, and the old cinema Cosmorama was moved here from the square in 1966.

The museum's exhibition halls were built in stages and were inaugurated in 1990 and 2002 respectively. Both parts were designed by the architect and artist Pontus Ljungberg, son of Sven Ljungberg and Ann Margret Dahlquist-Ljungberg. The halls are connected by glass corridors, and on the same plot are the villa and studio, the garden and a summerhouse. The museum is owned and run by the Sven and Ann Margret Ljungbergs stiftelse (foundation), and since 2012 it has officially been Kronobergs läns bildkonstmuseum (Kronoberg County Art Museum).

The collection contains art by Sven Ljungberg, Ann Margret Dahlquist-Ljungberg and Pontus Ljungberg, as well as sketches, manuscripts, letters and personal belongings. The foundation has also bought works by other artists, above all scholarship holders who have been recognised in memory of the couple. Parts of the collection are shown in the museum's exhibitions, alongside exhibitions by visiting Swedish and Nordic artists.
