About the museum

Svenska Fyrverkerimuseet (Swedish Fireworks Museum) is Sweden's only registered fireworks museum and lies next to the Fyrverkerifabriken (Fireworks Factory) in Ljungby. The museum preserves and shows the pyrotechnic history of Sweden, mainly consumer entertainment fireworks but also some professional products and manufacturing equipment. The idea arose when the well-known fireworks company Hammargrens was to be wound up, although the collecting of old firecrackers had been going on for a long time. The founder, Fredrik Bergkvist, collected Swedish entertainment fireworks for several years and donated the collection to the non-profit association that now runs the museum.

The exhibition shows goods from companies such as Hammargrens, Hanssons Pyrotekniska, Falu Pyrotekniska, FyrverkeriMästarna and Linders, but also from lesser-known makers such as JOFA, BIFA, Fladen, Vansito, Viking Fyrverker, Arne Roos and Helge Winbergs Fyrverkerifabrik. There are firecrackers, rockets, Bengal lights, solars, waterfalls and bombs, as well as machines and tools from production. The museum has the country's largest collection of fireworks and firecrackers from the period before the turn of the millennium.

On 14 May 2021 a lightning strike caused a fire that totally destroyed a large part of the museum's objects, including Sweden's last used dragermaskin (drager machine). The museum has since rebuilt the collection, with grants from Kulturrådet (the Swedish Arts Council) for new premises of nearly 100 square metres. The museum belongs to ArbetSam, the Working Life Museums' cooperation council.
