About the museum
Lövångers sockenmuseum (Lövånger parish museum) is run by Lövångers hembygdsförening (Lövånger local heritage society) and lies just north of the old stone church, next to the church village. The museum shows how people lived and made a living in the Lövånger district around the turn of the last century. The objects have been donated by the parish's residents.
The museum is housed in a Västerbotten farmhouse from the 1700s that was moved from the village of Böle on the other side of Gärdefjärden. The house is a typical main farm building (mangårdsbyggnad) in a slightly larger variant of the parish house type known as tioknutsstuga. The ground-floor hall, bedroom and large kitchen are furnished as the living environment around 1900, and the stairwell walls have stencilled patterns.
Upstairs there is a school room from the early 1900s, as well as exhibitions on the dairies that existed in the district, on how Västerbottensosten (Västerbotten cheese) got its W stamp, and on the crafts of the shoemaker, tanner, watchmaker and photographer. In the cellar there is a model of a smithy, a textile section with, among other things, the Lövånger costume (Lövångersdräkten), and a German Adler from 1913 that is walled into a garage next to the house.
