About the museum
Mockfjärds gammelgård lies high up in Lindbyn with a view over the Västerdalälven river. Since the 1600s the farm has been a farmstead in the Knute family's ownership. In the early 1930s Mockfjärds hembygdsförening (Mockfjärd Local Heritage Society), founded in 1921, bought Knutesgården and let the existing buildings remain on their original site. That is where the name gammelgård (old farmstead) comes from.
Many buildings of local historical interest have since been moved to the farm, which today has 24 buildings. The original buildings are a large parstuga (double house), Knutesgården, together with a källarstuga (cellar house), a stable and a threshing barn, which frame the farmyard (gårdstunet). The oldest building dates from the 1500s. The collecting of old implements began even before the association was founded, and today there are about 3,500 registered objects.
In a costume room, details of the Mockfjärd costume are shown, along with a large collection of bobbin lace (knypplade spetsar), since bobbin lace has an old and strong tradition in the district. The local heritage society also manages Tanså hytta (Tanså ironworks).
