About the museum
Museispårvägen opened in 1987, when Malmö Lokaltrafik celebrated a hundred years of public transport in Malmö. The operation is based on the trams and equipment preserved from the city’s tramway era. The Svenska Spårvägssällskapet (Swedish Tramway Society) took over the running of the museum tramway in 1988.
Malmö Stads Spårvägar Museiförening consists of Malmö city, Malmö museum and the Malmö branch of the Svenska Spårvägssällskapet. The municipality owns the tracks and trams, while the members carry out maintenance, operation and restoration on a voluntary basis. The income goes to operations and maintenance.
During the season the trips run from Banérskajen by Teknikens och sjöfartens hus (the House of Technology and Maritime History) via Turbinen, Kung Oscars väg, Stadsbiblioteket (the City Library) and Malmöhus Castle to Bastionen, where the tram turns. The journey takes about 20 minutes. Outside the season the association maintains and renovates both the service trams and larger restoration projects in the Vagnhallen (tram shed).
