About the museum
Naturum Öresund opened on 25 April 2020 as Sweden's 32nd naturum and is located in the Marinpedagogiskt center (Marine Education Centre) at Ribersborg beach by pier 7, between Öresunds funkis (the Öresund functionalist building) and Temalekplats Öresund (Öresund Theme Playground). The City of Malmö is the principal, and the activities are run by the association Marint Kunskapscenter i Malmö (Marine Knowledge Centre in Malmö). The centre's task is to increase knowledge and awareness of the sea and to make the animal life of the Öresund accessible to everyone.
In the exhibition Öresund under ytan (Öresund Beneath the Surface) visitors learn about life in the sound and why the sea needs to be looked after. Three aquariums show the shoreline, the kelp forest and the eelgrass meadow, and with the help of microscopes, VR goggles and a world map with water samples, visitors can explore the sea themselves. The naturum also offers guided programmes, self-guided programmes, study visits, holiday activities and events.
