About the museum
Ölmestads museum is in Reftele and is housed in Ölmestad’s old school, which was built in 1926. The building was used as a folk and compulsory school until 1966, when the new Ölmestad school came into use.
The collections include, among other things, objects from closed schools in the former Reftele Municipality. In a classroom with old school desks, visitors are welcome to try sitting, and under the desk lids there are old school books. The museum also has over 800 school wall charts.
In the large hall upstairs a large collection of utility objects is shown, from buttons to bicycles and chainsaws. The textile exhibition shows, among other things, flax and wool preparation, tape weaving, sewing and equipment for textile care. The museum also offers genealogy research, in cooperation with associations and study associations, mainly on evenings and weekends.
