About the museum
When Örkened parish became its own pastorate (pastorat) in 1868, a farm in Östra Flyboda was bought as a vicarage. The first vicar, Carl August Suneson, moved in in 1868 and built new outbuildings and extended the main house. In 1939 the priest moved to a newly built vicarage by the church in Lönsboda, and the old vicarage was sold to JUF, which ran it as a village hall (bygdegård) with parties and events.
In the mid-1940s the local heritage association was allowed to use some rooms on the upper floor for a museum. After negotiations with the diocesan council (stiftsnämnden), the association bought the outbuildings in 1979; they were renovated and have since been used as museum premises. In the mid-1990s the eastern outbuilding range was extended to house a fire engine and firefighting equipment donated by the fire brigade, so that the village hall got its own fire station.
Today the village hall is a museum that reflects a time that younger generations have not experienced. The buildings are well maintained and are used by Örkeneds hembygdsförening for the museum and the association's events.
