About the museum
The stone museum in Vilshult tells of the stone industry in the area around Vilshult in Olofström Municipality. Diabase, often called black granite or black gold, was quarried there from the late 19th century. Stone from the district has been used in well-known buildings.
The museum is run by Kyrkhults hembygdsförening (Kyrkhult Local Heritage Society) and shows exhibitions on how the stone was quarried, worked and transported. The outer part, with pictures from the local quarrying in the early 20th century, is always accessible. The indoor part is open in summer and by arrangement, and guided viewings are arranged on certain occasions.
