About the museum
Plastens Hus in Perstorp is the only plastics museum in the Nordic countries and is run by a non-profit association. It is in the former factory premises of Skånska Ättikfabriken (the Scanian vinegar factory), where Scandinavia's first plastics production started. Perstorp's industrial history goes back to 1691, when Skånska Glasbruket (the Scanian glassworks) was founded, and via vinegar production the town developed into one of Scandinavia's largest plastics industries.
The exhibition follows the history of plastic from the glassworks and vinegar to the first plastic products: Isolit, the laminate and the flooring Pergo. It also shows works by well-known designers, such as Sigvard Bernadotte and the pattern Virrvarr, and explains what plastic is and why the material is often hard to replace.
In the same premises there is Perstorp's tourist office and a shop with design products and gifts with a local connection. The museum also arranges guided tours, theme evenings and other activities about plastic and plastic culture.
