About the museum
Ausås museum is by the Ausås vicarage (prästgård) south of Ängelholm and is run by Spannarpsortens Hembygdsförening (Spannarp local heritage society), which looks after the district around Ausås, Starby, Spannarp, Höja and Strövelstorp. Parts of the vicarage's wings, completed in 1774, are used as a museum.
The museum is built up with a new exhibition setting roughly every year. The eleventh, on crafts and technology, was built on the upper floor of the museum wing and is reached by a lift that the association installed with voluntary labour. Among the settings are the district's slipper maker, the bread van (brödbilen) and a village café (byacafé). There is also a trading shop that sells, among other things, stone-ground flour, freshly ground coffee and sweets in paper cones (strut).
The association also manages Ausås mölla, an earth Dutch-type mill (jordholländare) from the first half of the 1800s, which the association bought in 1959 and which grinds flour when the wind is right. Next to it is an apple orchard with many varieties. The museum arranges a local day (bygdedag), an autumn market and a Christmas market.
