About the museum
The Luftbevakningsmuseet shows the air defence group centre S16 Sländan in Åstorp. The facility was built in the early 1950s as part of a system in which air surveillance towers reported to group centres that located incoming hostile aircraft by optical methods. The staff consisted mainly of so-called flyglottor (female air surveillance volunteers).
Sländan is the only air defence group centre in Sweden that has been preserved in original condition. The facility lies underground and is reached through a long, steep staircase. Visitors take a guided round and can then look around on their own.
