About the museum
The local heritage farm lies just north of Rättvik church and consists of some thirty buildings from various villages in Rättvik parish. The core is a courtyard farm in Rättvik style, where the farm's most important buildings stand together in a square, with a parstuga (double-room cottage), a loftbod (raised storehouse) with portlider and farm buildings. There are also, among others, härbren (log storehouses), loftbodar (raised storehouses), a stolpbod (post storehouse), a torpstuga (crofter's cottage), a fjös (cowshed), a lada (barn) and a collection of fäbod cottages (summer-farm buildings), one of which, a fire house (eldhus), is said to date from the 14th century.
The farm is run by Rättviks hembygdsförening (Rättvik Local Heritage Society), which shows a setting from the heyday of peasant society, with some 3,500 preserved objects and the characteristic cupboards and wall paintings.
