About the museum

Raus stoneware factory south of Helsingborg is one of the last stoneware factories in the Nordic countries. Since Ludvig Johnsson started operations in 1911, stoneware has been thrown and salt-glazed by hand. Pots and jars are fired for three days with about eight tonnes of coal in a coal kiln, which is the oldest one in operation in the Nordic countries. Raus ceramics have become popular with collectors.

The Nakajima family took over the factory in 2003. The artist Yoshio Nakajima, who came to Sweden in 1966 and studied at Valands konsthögskola (Valand Academy) in Gothenburg, has his studio on the site. On 28 May 2011 Yoshio Nakajima museum och konsthall was opened in connection with the factory's 100th anniversary.

Visitors can explore the old factory environment, the kiln and the museum, shop in the store and see international art and ceramics exhibitions. The art gallery has a permanent section of Yoshio Nakajima's art, and the factory hosts visiting artists.
