About the museum
Risinge Hembygdsförening (Risinge Local Heritage Society) was founded in 1916 and is one of the country’s oldest local heritage societies. It was formed as Risinge Museiförening (Risinge Museum Association), and a year earlier it had already been allowed to use the northern extension of S:ta Maria church as a museum room, but the space soon became too cramped and damp.
The heritage farm was built in 1929–1930 by the brothers Josef and Valfrid Bäck to designs by the architect Erik Lundberg. The house is built of logs in the form of a miner’s farm (bergsmansgård) with a double-room cottage (parstuga), and was inaugurated in September 1930. Several buildings belong to the heritage farm, among them the museum, the Smedjan (smithy), Mässelköpsboden, Stugan på kyrkbacken (the cottage on the church hill) and the 1700s storehouse. Klippestorpsgården (Klippestorp farm) from around 1820 was moved from Skärvinge in 1963 and stands in Vibjörnsparken in Finspång.
The collections tell the story of the district from the Stone Age to the present, with objects from the ironworks era and from life in the countryside. Among them are a bathtub of Kolmården marble and an ackordzittra (chord zither), an instrument invented in Finspång.
