About the museum
Finspångs bruk dates its industrial start to 1580, when the Dutchman Wellam De Wijk was commissioned by Johan III to run the operation. The works focused on cannons and cannonballs and was developed by the De Geer family of Finspång for more than 300 years. Louis De Geer d.y. (the Younger) laid the foundation stone of Finspång Castle in 1668, and around the castle the works grew up with smithies, a cannon foundry and the works street.
The works museum tells the story of Finspång's time as one of the country's most important ironworks, from cannon manufacture to metal works. The museum lies in the historic works environment by the castle and Bruksgatan and is not open at fixed times. Visits take place by arrangement or on the open days of the industrial area.
