About the museum
Höglandssågen is an old water-powered sawmill in the village of Högland by the Långseleån river, about 50 kilometres from Dorotea along the road to Borgafjäll. The sawmill was built in the 1850s and was in use for about a hundred years. Like many other places in the municipality, the village has a strong connection to the timber industry.
In the 1980s the water flume and water wheel were repaired so that the sawmill could again be used in the old way. Around the sawmill there is a local heritage area with, among other things, a log hut (timmerkoja) and a smoke sauna (rökbastu). Dorotea Municipality describes the site as an attraction that contrasts with today's modern sawmills.
