About the museum
Vilhelmina museum is in the old parish hall (sockenstuga) from the 1890s in the church village of Vilhelmina. The museum's collections reflect the municipality's history from prehistory to the present. The focus is on tools from the settlers' self-sufficient economy (nybyggartidens självhushåll), but there are also some Sámi objects.
Among the main attractions in the prehistory section are the Maksjö find (Maksjöfyndet), a rich grave find from the 700s, and a ski from the 300s. The collections include cultural-historical and archaeological objects, Sámi objects, clothing and textiles, and John Lindgren's object collection.
The museum is run by Vilhelmina Municipality. In summer 2026 Friluftsfrämjandet (the Outdoor Recreation Association) was the host, and the museum was open for three weeks in early July. Groups and bookings are accepted as time allows.
