About the museum
Fatmomakke has been used as a church site by Sámi and settlers since the late 1700s. It is the country's most prominent Sámi church village and has been of great importance as a spiritual and multicultural meeting place in the Norrland interior. Today there are nearly 80 kåtor (Sámi huts) and 20 log church cottages.
The church village became a cultural reserve and was inaugurated on 13 September 2014 as Sweden's 40th cultural reserve. Three church weekends are celebrated every year: the Midsummer weekend, the middle weekend, the third weekend in July, and the autumn weekend, the last weekend in August.
During the summer, Fatmomakke church, the Kulturrum, the Salvation Army prayer hut and the Länsmansstugan are open to visitors.
