About the museum
Bil-Ivar Ericsson (1938–2007) grew up in Svedje outside Hoting and, together with his brother Åke, started a car workshop and car sales business in a converted cowshed in the early 1960s. The company later moved to Hoting and during the 1960s became the agent for, among others, Mercedes-Benz. Already in the 1960s Ivar began to collect various vehicles, and when the cars stood in barns and storerooms around the Tåsjö area, the idea of a museum was born.
Ivars bilmuseum was inaugurated on Saturday 15 June 1984. Since 2009 the collection has been housed in new premises of 1,600 square metres in Hoting, where visitors encounter motoring history from the early 20th century to the 1970s.
The collection comprises over 100 vehicles from 1906 to 1986, including a Mercedes-Benz 300 “Måsvingen” (gull-wing) from 1957, a Rolls-Royce Phantom II from 1932, an Orient Buckboard from 1906 and a Ford De Luxe from 1940. Each year the museum swaps out some vehicles to keep the exhibition alive.
