About the museum
Skånes lantbruksmuseum (Skåne Agricultural Museum) in Alnarp grew out of the centenary of the Skåne agricultural societies (hushållningssällskap) in Malmö in 1914, where objects from the 1700s and 1800s were shown in a historic pavilion. Most of the collection was then donated to Alnarp; the pavilion was demolished and the material was reused in a new museum building in red-painted wood. The building was designed by Alfred Arwidius and completed in 1916.
The museum is run by the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) and reflects the development of farming from the 1700s onwards. The collection consists of machines and tools, among them a restored portable steam engine (lokomobil) from 1899, an early petrol-driven tractor from 1903 and one of the first imported combine harvesters in the Nordic countries.
In the same area there are two neighbouring museums, which are presented together with the agricultural museum as the Alnarpsmuseerna (Alnarp Museums). The Farrier Museum (Hovbeslagsmuseet) is in the old farriers’ school from 1877, and the Carriage Museum (Vagnsmuseet) shows wheeled objects from three centuries. A permanent exhibition introduces the history of Alnarp.
