About the museum
Skärgårdsmuseet is run by a non-profit association founded in 1969. Since 1974 the main museum has been housed in the old trading store (handelsboden) at Stavsnäs summer harbour, and the association also has branches on Nämdö and Runmarö.
The Nämdö branch is in Gamla Skolan in Sand on Nämdö, an island in the Stockholm archipelago that is easiest reached by boat. The permanent exhibitions tell about the school on Nämdö and about old heritage plants. Older exhibitions are preserved in folders in A2 format and can be studied on site.
At the branch there is a garden café with coffee and home baking, and books, postcards, home textiles and gift items can be bought. On the last Saturday in July the island celebrates Nämdödagen (Nämdö Day).
