About the museum
Skellefteå konsthall (Skellefteå Art Hall) is responsible for the art activities of Skellefteå municipality, which consist of exhibitions and programmes, the municipality's art collection, artistic works under the one-percent rule (enprocentsregeln) and the Meijer Collection. The exhibition hall is located in Sara kulturhus in central Skellefteå and shows contemporary art. The aim is to increase knowledge of contemporary art, support artistic work and make art accessible to everyone.
The municipal art collection comprises about 6,000 works, which have been placed in schools, preschools, care homes and offices rather than being shown in one place. The municipality's art purchases can be traced back to 1889, and the culture committee has bought art since it was established in 1960.
The Meijer Collection is a donation from the artist Sture Meijer (1931–2023) from Kåge. It shows his artistic career over sixty years, from the early 1960s onward, in about 200 works: oil paintings, gouaches, drawings, sculpture and prints. The collection is shown at Nordanå and is rehung every third year with new themes and deeper focus.
