About the museum
The school museum is located on the upper floor of Norrö courthouse (tingshus), which stands by the old district road from Stockholm. Here Åkers skeppslag (Åker shipping district) held its autumn courts between 1724 and 1834, while the spring court was held at Wira bruk. The oldest part of the building is thought to date from the 17th century. After 1834 and until the 1950s the courthouse was used as a private dwelling, after which it stood empty and decayed badly. The local heritage association started a rescue operation and obtained a lease agreement in 1983.
The school museum opened on 24 April 1993. The driving force was Lennart Fehrm, who had previously been a teacher at Hacksta school, and much of the material came from the school's cellar, where Willhelm Ohrling was headmaster. Some objects were also collected on Ljusterö by Gottfrid Lind.
The museum contains a recreated teacher's dwelling and a period-typical lesson room with bench desks with lids, a blackboard, old school charts, slate boards, an embroidery frame and older textbooks. The ground floor is rented out to Österåkers slöjdgille (Österåker craft guild). The museum is run by Österåkers hembygds- och fornminnesförening (Österåker local heritage and ancient monuments association).
