About the museum
The Skorstensfejaryrkets museum (chimney sweep trade museum) is run by a non-profit association formed in December 2014 with the aim of starting and managing a trade museum for the chimney sweep profession. The museum is located at Gussarvsgatan 8 in Hedemora, and the association describes it as something that is constantly developing and changing over time.
The chimney sweep trade is one of Sweden's oldest occupations. The museum wants to reflect the origin, development and working conditions of the trade, and shows the connection between the development of hearths and the sweep's working methods and tools. The exhibition tells of hearths from open fire and tiled stoves to wood stoves, oil heating and modern stoves, and of how the trade has in recent times taken on new tasks such as ventilation control, airflow measurement and flue-gas analysis.
The collection consists of tools and objects connected with the trade, for example the raffel, which every sweep carried on his shoulder, the kurpis, the sweep's belt, and the sweeps' own language. The association gladly accepts donated or loaned objects, photographs, stories, books and films concerning the trade.
