About the museum
Sockenstugan (the Parish Cottage) lies by the church in Urshult in Tingsryd Municipality. The house is used by Hembygdsföreningen Gamla Urshult (Gamla Urshult Local Heritage Society), which has over 200 members and has published the Urshults krönika (Urshult Chronicle) every year since 1940. The association runs an association library in the house and also has a parish museum there.
The library opened in its present form on 28 December 2016, in the same house where Urshult's first library started 154 years earlier. Since March 2025 the association library has been open on Sundays.
In the parish museum, objects and environments from the history of the district are shown, including an old trading store and a school. The association's other destination is the homestead Lunnabacken in a nature reserve with a view over Lake Åsnen, where most of the summer activities take place.
