About the museum
Stenmuseet i Sibbhult (Sibbhult Stone Museum) is an outdoor museum with an open information building on the former stone loading site at the disused railway yard in Sibbhult. The building's form is inspired by the large stone transports that once left the place. The museum was inaugurated in 2012 and is run by the association Stenriket (The Stone Realm), of which several stone companies in north-eastern Skåne are members.
The exhibition tells of the golden age of the stone industry, from the late 19th century to the end of the Second World War, when the quarrying of black granite gave work to the whole district. It also depicts the hard and dangerous work in the quarries. Next to the museum, at the churchyard, is Skånes lapidarium (Skåne Lapidarium), an outdoor collection that shows how gravestones have changed from the early 19th century to today.
