About the museum
Synskadades Museum (Museum of the Visually Impaired) is run by Synskadades Riksförbund (SRF, the National Association of the Visually Impaired) and is located in the association's premises on Sandsborgsvägen in Enskede, in a building that previously belonged to De Blindas Tekniska Fabrik (the Blind Persons' Technical Factory). The museum first opened to the public in 1997 and has since been rebuilt. According to the association, the new museum was inaugurated in September 2026.
The collections reflect the conditions of visually impaired people in Sweden from the late 18th and early 19th centuries to today's inclusive schooling and broader working life. The collections include objects, a picture archive with photographs from De Blindas Förening (the Association of the Blind) and from the education of the blind at Kungliga Blindinstitutet (the Royal Institute for the Blind) and Tomteboda, and a library with books in various tactile scripts, including raised Latin script, Moon type and Braille.
The museum also houses SRF's central archive and the archive of De Blindas Förening.
