About the museum
The Viking Museum opened in 2017 at Djurgårdsstrand on Djurgården in Stockholm and describes itself as an experience museum where history, myth and archaeology meet. The museum emphasises a nuanced picture of the Viking Age and shows not only warriors and seafarers but also the women, children and men who lived on the farms of Scandinavia.
The interactive exhibition shows archaeological finds, reconstructed settings and stations where visitors can try things out and delve deeper. Guides in Viking Age costume are present in the exhibition and tell of everyday life, crafts, belief and travel.
One of the highlights is the dramatised ride Ragnfrids Saga, a journey of about eleven minutes through 10th-century Europe that follows Harald’s journey out into the world. The ride is included in the entrance ticket. The building also houses a museum shop and Restaurang Eld, with a view over Wasahamnen.
