About the museum
Vrak opened in 2017 at Djurgårdsstrand on Djurgården in Stockholm, between Vasamuseet and Gröna Lund. The museum tells the story of the unique cultural heritage that lies on the bed of the Baltic Sea. Using digital technology, the stories are brought up to the surface, while the wrecks themselves remain where they are best preserved.
The exhibitions draw on knowledge from maritime archaeological investigations, and the museum works with researchers in Sweden and in other countries around the Baltic Sea. Vrak therefore functions both as a museum and as a hub for monitoring developments, research and collaboration on underwater cultural heritage.
Vrak belongs to the authority Statens museer för maritim-, transport- och försvarshistoria (Swedish National Museums of Maritime, Transport and Defence History) and is part of Royal Djurgården. In 2026 the museum was named Museum of the Year by Sveriges Museer and Svenska ICOM.
