About the museum
Torvsjö skogsmuseum (Torvsjö Forest Museum) lies just south of Torvsjö, about 500 metres south of the listed Torvsjö kvarnar (Torvsjö Mills). The museum tells how the villagers earned money through forestry work, timber floating and charcoal production in order to buy things they could not make themselves, such as coffee, tea and paraffin (fotogen).
On the site there are several forest huts that show how the forestry workers lived: Timmerkojan (the Timber Hut), Kolarkojan (the Charcoal Burner's Hut), the 1920s hut and Flottarkojan (the Floaters' Hut). Down by Torvsjön there is a boathouse with a replica of the spelflotte (spel raft) that was used to transport timber across the lake. The museum is part of the network Skogsriket (The Forest Realm).
