About the museum
Vardagsmuséet (the Everyday Museum) is run by the couple who own the farm Gårstaberg in Ålstorp outside Laholm. The activity started in 1999 in the Svinhuset (pigsty), where the first small rooms were built up, including a shop. In 2000 they took over the Kostallet (cowshed), which had previously been used for mushroom cultivation, and filled it with new settings. When egg production ceased a few years later, the Hönshuset (henhouse) of just over 700 square metres became free and was built up with more rooms.
Today there are altogether fourteen different settings and periods in the Hönshuset, and seven settings each in the Kostallet and the Svinhuset. In addition there is an agricultural section of about 500 square metres with farm machinery, carts and tractors, including a steam engine of the make Munktell from 1900. Sometimes hot-bulb engines, a stone crusher and other machines are set running.
The collection contains everyday things from the whole of the 20th century, for example toys, cameras, vehicles, mobile phones, clothes and mustard jars, and there is a country shop and a hairdresser's salon as they looked in the past. The museum received Laholm Municipality's culture prize in 2012 and the Folke Villstrand Prize of Hallands hushållningssällskap (Halland Agricultural Society) in 2019.
