About the museum
Veteranflottiljen was formed in 1987 as Föreningen Mtb-veteraner (the Mtb Veterans Association) by a number of enthusiasts who wanted to support the revived motor torpedo boat T26. Soon T46 came too. In 2009 the association changed its name to Veteranflottiljen (the Veteran Flotilla), to show that it now gathers more types of warships than motor torpedo boats. The association has about 600 paying members.
The activity is based at Gålö base by Hårsfjärden in Haninge, an area that has been the navy’s home since 1522. The association’s vessels include the motor torpedo boats T26, T46, T38, T121 Spica, R136 Västervik, M20, Sprängaren, A213 Nordanö and R142 Ystad. The association also runs a radio museum and youth activities.
The purpose is to research and document the history of the Swedish torpedo-boat arm and of the navy’s warships, to keep vessels and equipment in working order and to show them to the public. Several vessels have passenger-ship certificates and offer archipelago trips. Gålö base is a military protected object, and therefore only pre-booked visits are possible.
