About the museum

Veteranmotorklubben Ydre (Ydre Veteran Engine Club) was formed on 1 March 2004 at a meeting in Rydsnäs village hall. The members began to repair and collect tractors in a barn at Vena, but the space soon proved insufficient. After a couple of temporary premises the club bought a barn at Ukreda in Österbymo in 2007, and the collections were moved there.

Because the premises became too cramped, the club decided to build a museum. The roof trusses were obtained from Närpes in Finland in autumn 2007; drawings and a building permit were in place in May 2008, and members and other forest owners donated timber that was sawn on site. The foundation was poured in autumn 2010, the roof trusses were assembled from 16 May 2011, and the building was completed on 30 September 2011. The tractor museum was inaugurated on 1 October 2011.

The museum has about 65 tractors from 1937–1969. The exhibition also includes, among other things, a weaving room, an old kitchen environment, a shoemaker's workshop, Österbymo railway station, a joinery workshop, equipment for radio, TV, telephony, photography and film, and mopeds, bicycles, motorcycles, boat engines and chainsaws. Renovation work is constantly under way in the workshop, and every Wednesday is a working day for the members.
