About the museum
The mills by Volvobäcken in Långsjöby stand in their original condition, while the sawmill and the dam building for the upper mill have disappeared. The area is registered as a cultural environment and ancient monument (fornminne).
In the 1970s the mills and the mill dam were restored, and a log-built vilkoja (traditional rest hut) was built. A lumberjack's hut (timmerhuggarkoja) was moved there. In the early 21st century a fäbod cottage (fäbodstuga) from the late 18th century was moved to the stream bend between the lower and upper mill; it is one of Långsjöby's oldest preserved buildings. At the same time the dam and the water channel were renovated and a footbridge was built.
Since the 1970s annual mill days have been held, with grinding of grain meal and local culture such as timber felling, haymaking, carding, spinning and plant dyeing. Today Långsjöby Intresseförening (Långsjöby Interest Association) is responsible for the mill days and the palt festivals. North of the upper mill there is a hay meadow that is still used, and south of the stream two Sámi kåta sites are visible.
