About the museum
The Volvo Museum in Arendal on Hisingen opened in 1995 and showed, in chronological order, the history of Volvo from the 1920s, with cars, lorries, buses and engines. The museum closed in December 2023, and parts of its collection are now shown in exhibitions that change over time at World of Volvo.
World of Volvo was inaugurated on 14 April 2024 and is jointly owned by Volvo Cars and Volvo Group. The facility is at Lyckholms Torg near Liseberg and was designed by Henning Larsen Architects. It is described as Volvo's way of giving back to Gothenburg, where everything began, and it builds on the company's founders, Assar Gabrielsson and Gustaf Larson.
The main exhibition on floor 3 is a journey from Volvo's first vehicles to the technical solutions of the future, with iconic vehicles, safety innovations and interactive elements. The building also houses a restaurant, a shop and a conference centre.
