About the museum

Espai Columba. Art medieval andorrà, in Santa Coloma, is a cultural facility opened in 2019 that preserves and displays sets of murals and liturgical objects from Andorran churches. It is a centre for the dissemination of the country’s Romanesque and medieval painting, without neglecting the architectural context or the other artistic expressions of that religious world.

Andorra’s Romanesque churches, dating from the 11th to the 13th centuries, are small and simple, built of local stone for small rural communities. Today they appear as austere, monochrome buildings, but originally they were full of colour and ornament. Treasures such as the paintings of Santa Coloma and those of Sant Esteve in Andorra la Vella show this legacy, which is a fundamental part of the country’s cultural identity.

The visit complements that of the church of Santa Coloma, one of the most representative examples of architecture of its time, where an audiovisual projection takes visitors into the original interior of the building. The collection links different medieval periods and artistic styles and places emphasis on Romanesque production.
