About the museum
The Galerija naivne umjetnosti in Hlebine was founded in 1968 as a branch of the Muzej grada Koprivnice (Koprivnica City Museum), in a newly built museum and gallery building designed by the architect Miroslav Begović. In 1974 the sculpture park was laid out, and in 1985 the Spomen zbirka Ivana Generalića (Ivan Generalić Memorial Collection) was added.
Other facilities developed around the gallery: in 1992 the Generalićeva Stara kuća (Generalić Old House) opened as a memorial house, in 1995 the gallery and studio of Josip Generalić, and in 1999 the ethnographic house Janičina hiža.
The permanent display consists of a donation of paintings by Ivan Generalić and a collection of paintings on glass by artists of the first generation of the Hlebine School (Ivan Generalić, Franjo Mraz, Mirko Virius) and the second generation (Franjo Filipović, Dragan Gaži, Josip Generalić, Francina Dolenec, Mijo Kovačić, Ivan Večenaj). The exhibition space is also used for occasional exhibitions by original artists influenced by Podravina folk art.
