About the museum
The museum is housed in the medieval Stari grad fortress in Đurđevac. Its roots lie in gallery activity: in 1976 the Likovno udruženje (Art Association), which brought together artists from Đurđevac and the surroundings, was founded, and the gallery initially operated within the Narodno sveučilište. In 1992 it became a museum and gallery unit of the Centre for Culture, and the Muzej Grada Đurđevca was founded in 2015.
The first collection was a local fine art collection, whose most valuable works are by Ivan Generalić, Ivan Lacković Croata, Mijo Kovačić and Ivan Večenaj. The collections are based on donations.
The permanent display consists of the donation of Ivan Lacković Croata, opened in December 1997 in the attic space of the polygonal fortress, adapted for that purpose. The donation comprises more than 2,000 works of fine art and ethnographic collections: works by Croatian artists of the 20th century and foreign artists from many countries, sacral sculpture of the 17th and 18th centuries, and ethnographic material, mainly aprons, and traditional costumes of Moslavina and Posavina. Works by 160 artists are represented. Alongside the permanent display, the museum organises fine art, ethnographic and documentary exhibitions.
