About the museum
The building of the Stari magistrat was built between 1660 and 1680 as a single-storey house; in the 18th century it received a two-storey north wing along the new square and the fortress. In the 19th century it housed the district court and the town prison. The museum has been in the building since 1963 and has used the entire building since 1997. It is a cultural monument that requires thorough renovation.
The upper floor was fitted out for exhibitions in the mid-1960s: seven exhibition rooms form a circular route. The museum holds archaeological, ethnographic, historical, cultural-historical and fine art collections, as well as a library.
The Galerija Koprivnica, Galerija Mijo Kovačić, the Galerija naivne umjetnosti in Hlebine, the Galerija skulptura Ivan Sabolić in Peteranec, the Kuća Malančec and the Spomen područje Danica also belong to the Muzej grada Koprivnice.
