About the museum
The collection is housed in the building of the first school of Somogy County, which Count Festetics György had built in 1795–1796. Csokonai Vitéz Mihály taught and lived here in 1799–1800. The building later served as a school, grammar school, boarding school and Reformed church; after its renovation it opened in 1995 as the Városi Múzeum (Municipal Museum).
The permanent exhibitions comprise sculptures by Hadik Magda, paintings and painting equipment by Raksányi Lajos, the folk traditions of Csurgó (costume, textiles, household objects, toys), the history of the volunteer fire brigade founded in Csurgó in 1874, and the plaque collection donated by Soltra Elemér in 1995.
